Hello everybody, welcome to our blog about demographics of Ankara.

POPULATION OF ANKARA IN HISTORY

Ankara became the capital city of Turkey after the republic was declared. In the first years of the republic, Ankara was like a small town.

The population of Ankara has been increasing year by year because of immigration from the whole country due to the industrial development. And today it is Turkey's 2nd largest city in terms of population. Let's illustrate that with numbers:
In 1927 the population was about 400 thousands and it was Turkey's 5th most populated city.
In 2022 (today) the population is about 5.7 millions and it is Turkey's 2nd most populated city.
As you can see, the population of Ankara has increased about 15 times in about 100 years.
